What is IPL photo rejuvenation?

Skin renovation using IPL (intense pulse light) is a non-invasive method that safely and effectively treats skin damage without disruption of the skin's surface, so there is no downtime. IPL provides long term improvement of skin tone and texture and a multitude of problems associated with aging and sun damage including:

How does IPL photo rejuvenation work?

Using a specialized crystal in the hand piece, light energy is delivered at multiple wave lengths to the targeted area of the skin. Specific levels of energy are used to maximize improvement based on your individual skin type and problems. The light energy is absorbed by the tissue to repair damage and stimulate the production of collagen.

What results can I expect?

As we age, collagen production decreases causing natural skin aging. In addition, sun exposure causes changes in vital skin structures and further decreases collagen production. IPL photo rejuvenation stimulates collagen production, so as new collagen forms, it plumps the skin and softens the appearance of aging skin. Brown spots and redness lighten or disappear, pores shrink, and texture softens. The result is younger, fresher looking skin. The effects of treatments are cumulative, so improvements steadily increase with each procedure. IPL is a gentler, less expensive alternative to invasive alternatives like plastic surgery.

What areas can be treated?

The most commonly treated areas are the face, neck, chest, back, arms, and hands; but almost any area of the body can be treated with IPL. If you have concerns about aged or sun damaged skin on a specific area of your body, call us to arrange a FREE consultation for an honest and confidential evaluation to see if IPL photo rejuvenation may benefit you.

Is it painful?

Most clients describe the sensation as similar to the snap of a rubber band on the skin as the pulses of light energy are delivered through the hand piece. To minimize discomfort, a topical analgesic gel is applied to the skin 20-30 minutes prior to the treatment. Many patients report very little discomfort. Immediately after the treatment, pain is minimal to non-existent.

How many treatments will I need?

Depending on the area treated and severity of skin damage, a series of 4 to 8 treatments scheduled 3 to 6 weeks apart are recommended. By dividing the program into several treatments, the procedure provides gradual improvement with very low risk and no down time. Following each treatment, our laser professionals will consult with you to evaluate your results, and make recommendations for further treatments until desired results are achieved..

Is it safe ?

In recent years, IPL photo rejuvenation treatments have been safely administered for millions of patients worldwide. Advanced IPL technology systems treat only targeted tissues, leaving surrounding tissues intact and unharmed. As with any procedure, adverse affects are possible. In some cases, bruising, redness or mild blistering can occur, but are uncommon, and heal with time.

How do I prepare for the treatment?

Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, spray tans and self-tanning products for at least 2 weeks prior to the procedure. Discontinue the use of all topical exfoliating agents such as retinols, glycolic and salicylic acids 3 to 4 days prior to each treatment. Avoid microdermabrasion, laser procedures, dermal tissue fillers and BOTOX Cosmetic injections to treated areas within one week of IPL treatments. Photo rejuvenation procedures must be performed on clean skin, so our estheticians will instruct you to wash the area with a mild cleanser and remove make-up prior to the procedure.

What will recovery be like?

Post-treatment discomfort is almost non-existent. Immediately following IPL procedure, the treated skin may appear flushed and reddened, but usually fades in a few hours. Avoid harsh skin cleansers for 3 days following treatment. No direct sun exposure or tanning for a minimum of 2 weeks following the procedure. Use sunscreen of 30 SPF or higher following and between treatments.
