Dermal fillers are safe, FDA approved products that are injected just under the skin s surface to temporarily fill wrinkles for a more youthful appearance. Dermal fillers may also be used to plump the lips.
Which dermal fillers are used?
Several different dermal filler products such as Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus, Restylane, or Radiesse are used. Some dermal fillers are thicker, or last longer than others. The specific filler product that best fits your individual situation is used.
What are dermal fillers made of?
Most dermal fillers are a gel made of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration.
As we age, our skin changes. Over time, the natural volume of youthful skin begins to diminish, resulting in wrinkles and folds. When dermal fillers are injected under the skin in the area of a wrinkle or a fold, it s much like filling a ditch, so facial depressions caused by age and even some scars can be filled. How are dermal fillers administered?
The beauty of a dermal filler treatment is that it's a simple, 10-minute, non-surgical process. Several tiny injections of the product are administered directly under the skin and smoothed out to fill the area.
Who administers the dermal filler products?
Our physician Medical Director is a Board Certified Dermatologist, and is a trained and experienced dermal filler injector. He is available to provide dermal filler treatments to our clients by appointment at our facility.
How long do dermal fillers last?
Depending on the product used, results from treatment with dermal fillers can last for up to 4-10 months. Because hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body, it dissolves naturally with time. As the filler dissolves over time, future injections are required to maintain the results.
How much dermal filler will I need?
Most dermal fillers are available in pre-filled injectable syringes. The number of syringes required to give the desired results will be discussed with you prior to administering the injections.
No anesthesia is required, although your doctor may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream prior to injecting. In some of the more sensitive areas such as the lips, a local injectable anesthetic (dental nerve block) may be administered prior to the dermal filler injections.
Some common temporary injection-related side effects may occur such as swelling, pain, itching, and tenderness at the site. When injected in the lips, small lumps may occur in some patients. All of the dermal filler products that we use have full FDA approval and are proven to be safe and effective.
What happens if I choose not to continue treatments?
If you do not continue treatments, as the dermal filler product dissolves the facial lines and wrinkles will gradually look like they did before treatment.
