What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

There s only one BOTOX® Cosmetic. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of the facial muscles.

How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?

When facial muscles contract, frown lines and wrinkles are formed over time. Once BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into the muscles of the face, repetitive contraction of the facial muscles is limited, causing the lines soften or disappear.

How is BOTOX® Cosmetic administered?

The beauty of a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment is that it's a simple, 10-minute, non-surgical process. Several tiny injections of BOTOX® Cosmetic are administered directly into the muscles that cause those moderate to severe facial lines.

Who administers the BOTOX® Cosmetic?

Our physician Medical Director is a Board Certified Dermatologist, and is a trained and experienced BOTOX® Cosmetic injector. He is available to provide BOTOX® Cosmetic to our clients by appointment at our facility.

How long does BOTOX® Cosmetic last?

Results from treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic can last for up to 4 months. If you discontinue treatment, the frown lines between your brows gradually will look like they did before treatment.

How much BOTOX® Cosmetic will I need?

The doctor will determine where to administer the injections by examining your ability to move certain facial muscles. The location, size, and use of the muscles that create facial lines and wrinkles vary markedly among individuals. BOTOX® Cosmetic is administered in units. The number of units required to give the desired results will be discussed with you prior to administering the injections.

Does it hurt?

No anesthesia is required, although your doctor may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream prior to injecting. Discomfort is usually minimal and brief.

Top

Are there side effects?

The most common side effects following injection include temporary eyelid droop and nausea. Localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising may be associated with the injection. Patients with certain neuromuscular disorders such as ALS, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.

Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?

Although the results are visible, a treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you "had work done." The muscle activity that causes frown lines or other wrinkles is simply reduced, so you can still frown, smile and look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.

What will happen to the frown lines between my brows if I choose not to continue treatments?

If you do not continue treatments, the moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles will gradually look like they did before treatment.

What does it cost?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is administered and charged by the unit. The cost of a unit of BOTOX® Cosmetic varies by region of the country and even by city in the United States. The cost of BOTOX® Cosmetic in Austin is generally lower than most areas of the country, and the cost at Amazing Laser of Austin is lower than many local physician offices.
