How does it work?

As the laser is passed over the skin, light energy penetrates the skin targeting the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding tissue.   The laser beam finds the melanin (dark color of the hair) at its root, and heats the surrounding follicle to disable it.   The laser works on hair follicles that are in the anagen, or active growth phase.  A series of treatments is required to achieve desired results since only a portion of the hair follicles are affected at any one time.

Is it permanent?

No hair removal procedure can claim 100% permanent hair removal.  Our lasers have been approved by the FDA for permanent hair reduction.   After undergoing a sufficient number of treatments, significant reduction in hair growth is achieved.  Many clients see little or no hair growth following the laser hair removal process.  Some new hair growth may be seen over time as you age and your body reacts to hormones, medications, diet, and even stress.  Studies show that most people achieve 80% to 85% reduction, although certain people experience better results.

What areas can be treated?

Aside from the area close to the eye, almost any area of the body can be treated.  The inside of the ears and nose must be avoided to prevent damage to sensitive tissues.  The most commonly treated areas are face, upper lip, neck, chest, back, underarms, abdomen, bikini area and legs.  But many people experience hair growth in other areas that are unattractive or embarrassing.   Procedures are performed with discretion and confidentiality regarding your treatment is maintained.  Call us to arrange a FREE consultation for an honest and confidential evaluation.

Is it painful?

Laser hair removal is gentler and less uncomfortable than electrolysis, waxing or tweezing.  Some clients report a mild tingling or stinging sensation during the laser treatment, but many report little or no discomfort.  Some areas are more sensitive than others, but our lasers use a patented cryogen spray system that cools the skin immediately prior to each laser pulse allowing even sensitive areas to be treated in a relatively painless fashion.

Will it work for me?

Results vary from person to person, and hair color and skin type are key factors that influence the success of laser hair removal. The laser is attracted to melanin (dark color) in the hair root.  The ideal candidates are people with dark hair and light skin, but with new technology even dark skin types can be treated with success.   Gray hair without pigment at the follicle cannot be removed by the laser.  Call us to arrange a FREE consultation for an honest and confidential evaluation.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments that are required for optimum results vary from person to person.  Skin color, hair color and texture, and body area being treated are among the many factors that determine how readily hair will be removed.   Generally 6 to 8 treatments spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart are required.  Better success is achieved when the first few treatments are spaced 4 weeks apart, but later treatments may be spread out depending on individual results. Because some new hair growth may be experienced as you age, future touch-up treatments may be required to maintain desired results.

What are the potential side effects?

Laser hair removal is safe and effective and side effects are uncommon.  Most people leave the session with a slight redness or “sunburn-like” appearance of the treated area. Aloe vera gel may be applied to cool the skin following treatment.  Redness quickly fades, generally in less that one hour, meaning no “down-time” following the procedure.  The most common side effect is temporary darkening (hyper-pigmentation) or lightening (hypo-pigmentation) of the skin.  Most skin discoloration fades quickly leaving no permanent discoloration.   Risks can be greatly minimized by avoiding prolonged sun exposure or tanning for at least one week prior and one week following the procedure.  Risks and side effects will be discussed at your initial consultation.

What kind of lasers do you use?

We use the latest and most effective laser hair removal technology available by Candela Corporation, the market leader in aesthetic lasers.  For light to medium skin types, we use the Candela Mini GentleLASE, and for medium to dark skin types we use the Candela GentleYAG.  Our lasers use a patented cryogen spray system that cools the skin immediately prior to each laser pulse to protect and cool the skin.

What does it cost?

It is our goal to provide affordable laser hair removal for our clients. With no pre-paid packages or minimum number of treatment requirements, our “pay as you go” program allows us to provide a series of treatments tailored to your individual needs. Our hair removal prices are based on the areas you wish to have treated.  Some clients prefer to do one area at a time, but full body treatments offer a better value.  Prices will be discussed at your initial consultation.
